1/30/11 Report

Fishing remains strong. Not every day results in a swung fly steelhead, but most days have some kind of action. Jay joined us last week and got his first steelhead on the swing, a big wild Hoh buck. Nice job Jay!Mike and Ron joined us as well, and although we didn't bring a steelhead to hand that day I think its safe to say a great day was had by all. Thanks guys! Still have some openings, give us a call!

Video of Jay's steelhead can be seen here:

When I have unfilled days I go fishing…this could be one of you!

If anyone is thinking about booking a trip…I strongly encourage it. I have  I cant guarantee you a fish like this but I can help you acquire the necessary tools and put you on great water where any cast it could happen. A little cooperation from the fish and the rest is up to you!

1/21/11 Quick Report

Fairly chrome...notice the transparent fins...
After a long high water stretch things are coming into shape nicely. Water conditions were decent in certains areas yesterday and I was not so gently reminded that there are definitely some chrome fish showing up! Things should be pretty decent this week...more to come. Oh and I have some dates available if anyone wants to get out.

1/3/11 Report

1/18/11 Update:

Rivers are slowly coming into shape...fishing may be good this weekend into early next week. I have openings...give me a call 616-540-3836.

1/12/11 Update:
Rivers are not fishable at this point. We are in that time of year when storm systems are rolling in frequently. Be here on the right day and fishing can be phenomal...be here on the wrong and the rivers can be blown. It pays to be flexible. I still have some prime dates available in from now into spring, get a hold of me! Lets find some big, chrome, WILD winter steelhead!

1/3/11 Report
Happy New Year! It has begun here on the peninsula...winter steelhead season. We currently have excellent water conditions on all area rivers. Fish have been spread out and water temps are fairly cold making fish a little challenging at times but they are there. There is a mix of wild and hatchery fish available with wild fish numbers building throughout the month. The water temp the other day on the Hoh was 38 degrees...pretty cold but still plenty warm to bring fish to a swung fly! Low and slow is the key to this presentation, along with confidently covering a lot of water. It can be a challenge to do both but we can show you how! The weather and scenery has been incredible lately and we are in that time of year where any cast can result in the fish of a lifetime! Come pay us a visit...

12-5-10 Report

12-20-10 Update:
Rivers are all back in Shape. New report most likely after Christmas. Happy Holidays from PNW Spey Guides!

-Zack & Chad

12-14-10 Update:

Rivers are all blown at this point. It may be a while. Anyone looking for more current conditions can call or text me at (616)540-3836.

12-5 Report:
We have been treated with a rare 3 days of sunshine on the Peninsula. A beautiful few days to be on the water. Water conditions are good on the Hoh and all area rivers although rain is on the way. Focusing on some of the less popular stretches for this time of year has given us some great solitude and chances at some very happy fish.

We have been getting a nice mix of wild and hatchery steelhead along with quite a few bull trout. Eagles are our ever present company, saw at least 10 balds and 4 goldens today alone. Sometimes its nice to take a break and look around to really experience what this place has to offer.

11-29-10 Report

Hatchery steelhead numbers continue to build. Something has been grabbing our flies on most days whether it be a steelhead, salmon, bull trout, cutthroat...etc.

Ed was the first from my boat to land a hatchery steelhead last week and we hooked several more. I fished the Hoh yesterday and found my first Hoh chrome of the year. Things are shaping up rather nicely I would say. Get out there and get some!

11-16-10 Report

Well we are settled in for the winter on the Peninsula and eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first winter steelhead. Should literally be any day now. We got a bunch of water yesterday and overnight which should be bringing in the first chromers of the year as we speak. Today is dry and the rivers should be looking good for tomorrow and the next? depending on more rain coming. This weekend is supposed to be cold so hopefully that will lock things up high and the Hoh may clear nicely. There have been plenty of Coho around still and a mix of others as well. Things will only get better from here, bring on the steelhead.

We spent the last half of October and first part of November on the Clearwater and Grande Ronde rivers. Things were not always easy, they rarely are, but some great fish came to hand. The variety of habitat that steelhead reside in can only be described as amazing. From arid high desert canyons such as these rivers to the rain forests of the peninsula. All should be experienced if possible. Stay tuned as Chad and I likely will be offering single and multi-day floats on the Grande Ronde next fall.
First Day on the Clearwater...what a way to start.
